The ends of the fifteen-inch spoke are inserted, one on either side of the nest, at about three and three-quarters inches from the top, beside a spoke. On this foundation a weaver of No. 2 rattan is wound, as described on page 53, making a twisted handle. The nest is then colored a wood-brown with creosote shingle stain.
